About

Sean Canty is a Visiting Professor at The Cooper Union Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture. His research interests focus on matters of architectural type and geometry, with emphasis on the interrelationships between the interior, the building envelope and public space. Recent projects include explorations of abstract figures, composed of solids and volumes transformed through obliquity and distortion, that confound predictable readings of space. A precedent of importance is the picturesque, a conceptual approach to landscape that he applies to the architectural scale. Sean is a founding principal of Office III, selected in November 2016 as a finalist in the competition to design the Young Architect's project at MoMA PS1. He was a Project Designer at IwamotoScott Architecture of San Francisco, 2012-16. He received an M.Arch from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design in 2014 and a B.Arch from California College of the Arts in 2012.
